Is Jake Paul vs Logan Paul The Biggest Fight In Influencer Boxing?
Introduction
Who’d have thought that the idea of YouTubers competing in boxing matches against each other would cause such colossal interest? While the idea might have started as a pipe dream amongst some of the most prominent names on YouTube, some events have done hundreds of thousands in PPVs. For better or worse, depending on which side of the argument you’re on, the concept acted as a springboard for the now burgeoning professional career of Jake Paul.
Except for KSI, Logan Paul, and Jake Paul are the two most prominent names in YouTube boxing. The idea that the two brothers might face off one day is a moment that could be a landmark in the sport’s history. But is it the biggest influencer or crossover event out there, and could it surpass the 1.3 million PPV buys that KSI and Logan Paul managed back in 2018?
Does It Make Financial Sense?
Throughout the history of boxing, several brothers have laced up the gloves professionally – although very few have actually faced off against each other. Logan and Jake Paul will go wherever the biggest payday is. This isn’t meant in a derogatory sense; they’re highly successful influences who are multi-millionaires and have intelligent, business-minded approaches to their career moves.
Logan Paul has moved across several major entertainment platforms, including signing a massive deal with the WWE and flirting with the idea of playing Mr. Beast in a poker game—which would undoubtedly bring in huge viewing numbers and generate an enormous prize pool.
Whether they would face off in a charity match, gamble against each other using their own money, or perhaps combine the two, it’d attract an audience of millions. You’d think the two would play poker face-to-face and stream the event online to gain the most significant audience. An online poker game involves different strategies and skill sets – it dilutes the importance of bluffing and psyching out opponents but often requires a greater knowledge of poker hands.
Many poker players use online games to sharpen their knowledge, and you’d imagine these two huge YouTubers will be doing the same, whether they agree to face off in a poker game for real money or opt to do it for charity. For Logan, it’s about views, and whatever generates the most engagement, and even with Mr Beast’s following, a bout against his brother would likely make more financial sense.
Likelihood Of It Happening?
Although Jake believes he will become a professional boxing champion one day, the chances of him winning a bonafide world championship are unlikely. The waters are muddier in boxing regarding what constitutes a world title and what doesn’t. The WBA, WBC, and IBF are considered the main big three, with the WBO also a belt held in high esteem.
Jake could get lined up for a WBF belt or a much lesser organization belt, and the chances of him winning one of those in a carefully orchestrated cherry-picked matchup are far greater rather than him beating a genuine top 10 opponent. His fight against Tommy Fury, who, despite being a professional, is an extremely limited one, highlighted Jake’s limitations against legitimate pro opposition.
Logan’s brother has his hands full, with a bout against a near 60-year-old Mike Tyson lined up. Again, highlighting that either of the brothers will go where the money is.
We’d say there’s more likelihood of a Jake vs Logan fight than the chances of Jake winning a legitimate world title belt. This isn’t meant as a negative against Jake; he’s a YouTuber turned pro boxer, and the fact he steps in the ring with legit pro boxers means that he’s already done more than 99.9% of the people who spend their days criticizing him online.
Competing at cruiserweight, the main man in that weight class is undefeated Australian southpaw Jai Opetaia, and a fight against him would not last long, and it wouldn’t go well for Jake.
Final Thoughts
Unlike famous boxing brothers in the past, most notably the Klitschkos, who vowed never to face off against each other due to a special request from their mother, Jake and Logan seem keen to lace them up and battle it out.
Now, we’re not saying for a second that either of them has the same potential to do damage as Vitali and Wladimir could, and it’s likely to be an exhibition where they’d be more likely to showcase their skills rather than go in there and try and take each other’s head off. Is it the biggest fight in influencer boxing? Yes, we’d say so. It holds the most intrigue and definitely
attract more casuals than many influencer events, especially some of their last individual fights.
Logan’s match against Danis and Jake’s recent bout against Mike Perry offered the same format and predictability. While it was fresh when they started out, it was time to reinvent the model, and a fight between the two brothers would definitely fit into this category.
