KSI’s “Fan vs Pro Boxers” Challenge Sparks Controversy After Winner Revealed

KSI’s latest YouTube project, a creative and intense sparring challenge titled “Can You Survive 1 Round With a Pro Boxer for $100,000?”, quickly went viral for its bold concept.

The idea: ten fans step into the ring, each facing four boxers of increasing skill. If a fan can survive all four rounds, they win a $15,000 prize and a Misfits Boxing contract.

But after the episode aired and Kia Jami was crowned the winner, the celebration was quickly met with skepticism. Viewers and fans began raising concerns about the legitimacy of the challenge after it was revealed that Kia is associated with London Shootfighters, the same gym where KSI trains and a known feeder for many names in the Misfits scene.

A Familiar Face Behind the Gloves?

Kia’s win was portrayed as a fan achieving the ultimate underdog story. However, critics argue that his connection to Shootfighters, an MMA gym in London, undermines the spirit of the competition, which was marketed as an opportunity for average fans, not experienced gym fighters.

What further fueled suspicion was the pattern: multiple Shootfighters athletes have recently been featured or signed by Misfits Boxing, prompting concerns that the promotion is funneling talent from one specific gym under the guise of “open opportunities.”

Disrespect or Confidence? Kia’s Comments Draw Criticism

Adding to the backlash were post-challenge remarks from Kia Jami, in which he stated he “expected more” from the boxers he sparred, including King Kenny, Ty Mitchell, and even British boxing champion Viddal Riley. He went on to say that he’s “been hit harder by amateurs,” comments that many fans viewed as disrespectful, especially given that the boxers appeared to be sparing with their intensity during the filmed session.

Some Misfits fans noted that the pros were clearly taking it easy on Kia, either for safety or for entertainment value, which makes his post-victory confidence come off as misplaced or, at best, premature.
