History

A SINGLE Instagram comment kickstarted the 'YouTube boxing' phenomenon - which changed the sport of boxing FOR EVER. This madness all began with one throwaway comment.

Of course, it was made online, when Joe Weller announced he would spar his friend Theo Baker for a YouTube video, nothing serious.. until KSI commented: "Lemme fight the winner haha."
That turned out to be Weller and the two then sold out the Copper Box Arena on February 3rd of 2018 with the bout being viewed almost 23 MILLION times since.

KSI won, and then called out American fellow Youtubers Jake & Logan Paul, Jake turned down the challenge, wanting it to be MMA fight since Boxing isn't a real fight as he claimed. But later he decided to fight Deji (KSI's little brother) after his big brother Logan had to step up to the plate and accept KSI's challenge, in a moment which Logan considered this KSI call out as a "Career Saver", since he was having a very bad times after the Japan incident.
KSI & Logan, fought to a draw after six rounds in 2018 in Manchester, selling 1.3 million pay-per-views, which was considered as the biggest amature fight in the history of boxing.
But then, the game changed soon after, and went to a whole another level.

The one and only Eddie Hearn, one of the biggest boxing promoters in the world, turned them pro, and had the fight on Sky Sports Box Office in the UK and DAZN internationally, in a fight which broke the record of the biggest PPV seller in the Youtube boxing scene till this date, as they sold 2 millions PPV, per Hearn.
"The key was definitely taking it off YouTube on to a major platform, in this case DAZN. It took me a year of negotiations to make that happen." said Liam Chivers, KSI's manager, to The Sun.
"Because this whole thing revolves around KSI, and his audience and everyone else was just the B-side. So him establishing this as an actual phenomenon, it was all about, ‘So what’s next for him?’ Always knocking that mainstream barrier down." Liam added.
KSI, 29, won by split-decision but has been unable to fight since due to a fledging music career which has seen him top charts, headline festivals, and selling out historical arenas like Wembley recently.

But Logan, 27, returned in June of 2021 in an unthinkable exhibition with Floyd Mayweather, 45, which ended without a winner after no knockout was scored. While Jake, 25, continues since then on building his pro record fighting opponents from different sports making him currently the most active fighter in the YT boxing scene.
